Our Befriending Service still needs volunteers to visit and support isolated older people.

There are many older people in Lambeth who live on their own, and who may not have any regular visitors or opportunities to meet with friends or family. There is plenty of evidence to show that people in this situation suffer more from poor physical and mental health and may spend more time in hospital or end up moving in to residential care.

The Befriending Service aims to change the quality of life for older people, making a positive contribution to their daily lives by providing companionship and support.

We are looking for people of all ages who can spare 1 – 2 hours a week to visit and befriend an older person. We particularly need help between 9am and 5pm on weekdays. We will provide you with training and support, and also carry out Criminal Records Bureau checks.

We are constantly receiving requests for the Befriending Service and we will always make a careful match with a volunteer to help find shared interests. To find out more about being a volunteer with Age Concern Lambeth, call team member Petrina Hughes on 020 7346 6817 or e-mail her at befriending@aclambeth.org.uk

Please tell us your stories, past & present.  If you have a story to share then please let us know, or perhaps you have a poem you have written.  Please send these to us so we can put these on the Age Concern Lambeth website for others to enjoy.    Visit the 'Your Stories' section of our website.

You might also want to visit and contribute to the Age Concern England Timecapsule. This is a fantastic opportunity for all generations to share their memories on a communal website.
