Working with and for older people in Lambeth
Age Concern Lambeth's mission is to support and work with older people to achieve a full and enjoyable quality of life. Welcome to our website.
In recognition of Carers Week (8th- 12th June) Age Cocnern Lambeth are consulting with older carers across the borough to find out how they want their service to develop.
Preventing and combating the potential isolation of older carers is still the main objective of the project. The Befriending Service was set up to provide company and stimulation for older people as well as giving opportunities for young and old to volunteer and access potentially life saving information.
With this in mind we want to hear what changes you would like to see.
Come and join us on Friday, 12th June at the Vida Walsh Centre, 2b Saltoun Road, Brixton SW2 from 2:00pm till 3:30pm to discuss caring in Lambeth and to share your ideas. Alternatively you can download a questionnaire by clicking here then complete it and send it back to us.
For more information please contact Faith Abbey on 0207 346 6802 or email her at f.abbey@aclambeth.org.uk
Our Befriending Service still needs volunteers to visit and support isolated older people.
There are many older people in Lambeth who live on their own, and who may not have any regular visitors or opportunities to meet with friends or family. There is plenty of evidence to show that people in this situation suffer more from poor physical and mental health and may spend more time in hospital or end up moving in to residential care.
The Befriending Service aims to change the quality of life for older people, making a positive contribution to their daily lives by providing companionship and support.
We are looking for people of all ages who can spare 1 – 2 hours a week to visit and befriend an older person. We particularly need help between 9am and 5pm on weekdays. We will provide you with training and support, and also carry out Criminal Records Bureau checks.
We are constantly receiving requests for the Befriending Service and we will always make a careful match with a volunteer to help find shared interests. To find out more about being a volunteer with Age Concern Lambeth, call team member Petrina Hughes on 020 7346 6817 or e-mail her at befriending@aclambeth.org.uk
